For the previous version of Street Fighter 6, BST|Daigo Umehara made the very interesting claim that Akuma wouldn’t be the strongest character if he had access to 10,000 stamina. According to Daigo, Mai and Ed would still probably be stronger in this scenario.
It sounds as though Daigo has some regrets about choosing Akuma to be his main character in Street Fighter 6. It’s kind of an awkward time to try to switch characters, so Daigo is probably stuck with Akuma for the foreseeable future. Despite this, Daigo claims that he doesn’t have any regrets about his choice.
“I don’t really have many regrets in life,” said Daigo.
“I don’t regret it, but if I could go back a year, I wouldn’t pick him.” — Daigo Umehara on Akuma
Following this statement, a viewer asked Daigo outright if he regrets choosing Akuma as his main in Street Fighter 6. This question was likely prompted by Daigo’s consistent insistence that Akuma has been hit hard by nerfs since his release.
“No, I don’t. I guess I’m not really in the habit of regret,” continued Daigo in response.
However, Daigo does still acknowledge that he’d probably choose a different character if he was able to go back in time to redo this decision.
“Maybe not,” said Daigo in response to a question on whether he’d stick with this choice if given another opportunity. “I don’t regret it, but if I could go back a year, I wouldn’t pick him.”
With the proper foresight, Daigo declares that he’d probably pick Mai instead of Akuma. Though she did receive numerous nerfs in the recent update, she’s been considered to be the best character in Street Fighter 6 for a good while now.
“I mean, I’ve already got the Akuma skill set, right? Probably Mai,” said Daigo.
“Until she gets patched. I mean, in this scenario, why would anyone pick Akuma? I mean, wouldn’t everyone change their character pick?”
Daigo also briefly brings up the possibility that he’d mess with Ryu as well. Check it all out in the video below:
