The Golden Yachties series is MassivelyOP’s annual set of fauxwards, named in honor of some guy who was convinced we are all making bank writing about MMORPGs is so lucrative that we’re typing MMO blog posts from a gold-plated yacht. Did Poe’s Law apply? Nobody knows. We’re enjoying the view from the yacht’s deck, shown above, however.
Today, we reveal our pick for best worst MMO griefing of the year. And the winner is…
Chimneytime
I admit that I laughed at this post about a World of Warcraft player named Chimneytime who decided to grief his fellow WoW players by mindcontrolling people into a chimney from which they could not escape (except, we assume, by hearthing).
“Chimneytime’s plan is to sit by a flight point, then wait until a player lands nearby. Use Mind Control. Jump the character from the flight point into the chimney nearby in the eight seconds the spell is active. Then… that’s it. You can’t jump high enough to get out of the chimney. You’re not hurt; you’re just stuck in a chimney.
“Well, actually, the first part of the plan was probably to fall in a chimney, realize the exploit potential, and then roll a character named Chimneytime. It’s kinda hard to argue there was no premeditation here.”
He skated by with a warning, if you’re wondering. And no, griefing is not OK. But compared to what most people do when griefing, this bit is kinda funny.

Oh, don’t worry; I have some additional runners-up that are perfectly terrible, run-of-the-mill, very bad people who all deserve to step on LEGOs type of griefing posts too:
See, don’t you just want chimney guy back now.
