The latest update for Street Fighter 6 is now live. Nine out of 28 characters have received adjustments, but Mai, Elena and Sagat received the longest list of changes.
Unsurprisingly, Mai received a fair share of nerfs as many saw her as being the best character in the game. Meanwhile, Capcom mentioned that the focus of the changes for Sagat and Elena were to increase their usability since it felt like they were underperforming compared to the vast majority of the roster.
Sagat ended up receiving changes to his crouching light kick, crouching medium kick, Tiger Monolith, the held version of heavy Tiger Uppercut, heavy Tiger Knee Crush, Tiger Nexus, Mighty Tiger, Greedy Tiger and Nova Tiger.
It’s important to highlight that there were no changes made to Sagat’s projectiles. Despite this, players are reporting that something has changed with a classic interaction that Sagat has had for years across multiple Street Fighter entries.
Under normal circumstances, opponents are able to duck under Sagat’s High Tiger Shot. However, this option typically hasn’t existed while the opponent is getting up after getting knocked down since they first have to “stand up” before they can crouch, briefly shifting their hurtbox upwards.
Due to this, Sagat is supposed to be able to force the opponent to block a meaty High Tiger Shot after knocking them down under specific situations. In fact, he was previously able to do this in Street Fighter 6, but this no longer seems to be the case.
For the time being, it’s unknown if this adjustment was intentional or not. Regardless, the removal of this setup for Sagat has left him a little weaker even though the patch was intended to increase the character’s “usability.”
If I had to guess, I’d say that this was probably an unintentional change since it wasn’t really seen as overpowered in the first place. More than likely, Capcom will have to release another update to revert how the interaction worked in the previous version of Street Fighter 6.
