My desk isn't much in terms of net worth. It uses thrift store items, spare parts, and trendy aspect ratios.

However, my battle-station has a single core purpose. Bring me joy. I can think of no better way to describe the 2000's era desk phone you see above.

I was frequently missing phone calls from Marrick because my phone was either not at my desk, or face-down on silent. Luckily, when a business donated their desk phones in favor of work-from-home, they solved my problem… and it only cost me $2.

I cannot count on two hands how many people I have spoken with today. Friends and family I have struggled to connect with over the holidays… old friends, new friends, all from the desk phone. I look forward to the next time my desk phone glows, and I get to speak to the next person who calls.

Greenery was selected as a flair because green is my favorite color, and this desk runs Linux Mint.

VOiP is incredibly customizable, so you can play with it and tune it to get it just the way you want. You might just want to keep your mobile number, or add another. There are no wrong answers. I went with CallCentric, who provide me with a number and service for a few bucks a month. This isn't an ad, so pick whichever provider is right for your needs.

For those that want to dial in and say it's not much, I would gladly tip my hat to you, and respond with a smile… implying that it's all mine.

Here's to all the battle-stations around the world, bringing people joy and love. Merry Christmas,

– Alex
