This is a 41min video essay exploring Teilhard de Chardin's life and ideas, made by me. The first half of the video goes into his ideas on the evolution of the early universe leading to primitive humanity. The 2nd half explores his visions of the future: the complexification of consciousness and the interlinking of minds into faster feedback loops through technology- which, through a process he called 'noogenesis', is growing into a planetary brain, that he called 'the noosphere'.
I'm myself a big fan of the cyberpunk style, and I think that's one reason why I found myself drawn the Teilhard. His work would go on to influence many other thinkers in the fields of cybernetics, deep ecology, and more. Thinkers like Marshall McLuhan (his 'global village' idea was heavily inspired by Teilhard's noosphere), Gregory Bateson, and Terence McKenna. Fans of McKenna will be familiar with his 'transcendental object at the end of history', which was directly inspired by Teilhard's idea of the omega point.
