WEBSTER, N.Y. — Two basketball games at Webster Schroeder High School were postponed due to a social media threat. News10NBC’s Marsha Augustin spoke with officials from the Town of Webster to gather details.
A concerned viewer contacted us about the threat this afternoon. We found posts on the Webster Schroeder athletic website and the U-Prep Facebook page confirming the postponement.
The games were scheduled between U-Prep and Webster Schroeder’s junior varsity at 5:30 PM and varsity basketball teams at 7:15 PM. The U-Prep Facebook page displayed a large “Event Postponed” stamp.
The communications director for the Town of Webster confirmed the Webster Police Department is investigating the social media threat.
The area outside Webster Schroeder High School on Ridge Road was quiet Wednesday night with no one present following the cancellation.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time. This is a developing story and we are working to learn more.
