The NFL’s Week 13 schedule is basically eight in the box — totally stacked up front, softer on the back end, daring us to get creative and take a risk. In this weekly piece, we usually sort Sunday games through markers like scoring potential or playoff stakes. Right now, we’re reading the defense and calling the audible.
No complaints on our end, honestly. This year, we got a stacked lineup on NFL Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Not for nothing, college football’s regular-season finales on Friday and Saturday are full of high stakes and pure hatred. We should be a bit spent by Sunday afternoon, and fittingly, seven of the 11 matchups feature teams with three or fewer wins.
So, the rankings below are lighter on hard analysis in favor of visual appeal — we’re talking throwback uniforms and landscape stadiums. After a holiday weekend live sports marathon, we just want something that’s easy on the eyes. Appreciate the gems on this Sunday’s slate, and beware the fabled trap game.

5. Las Vegas Raiders (2-9) at Los Angeles Chargers (7-4)
The Raiders are in free fall, while the Chargers need a win to keep pace in the AFC. Los Angeles won 20-9 in the Week 2 meeting on “Monday Night Football.” Rising star OT Joe Alt played 100 percent of the offense’s snaps. Since Alt’s season-ending ankle injury on Nov. 2, Justin Herbert has looked rather limited — 220 passing yards and five sacks taken in Week 10, then a mere 81 yards and two more sacks in Week 11. Jim Harbaugh needs a galvanized group effort coming off a bye.
Aesthetically, Raiders-Chargers is lifted by two factors. SoFi Stadium has spaceship sleekness, and this week’s home colors are elite throwbacks with 2000s nostalgia. Navy “Super Chargers” for the walk-off win. Vegas’ minimalist white-and-silver sets a nice contrast, too.

4. Arizona Cardinals (3-8) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-5)
Good football? We cannot say that with any degree of confidence, especially if there’s no Baker Mayfield (questionable with a shoulder sprain). The Bucs do need to stem the tide and reload the pewter cannons amid a 1-4 stretch.
Good looks, though? Yes, book it. The color balance is ideal — Cardinals in white jerseys with red numbers, Buccaneers in red with white numbers. Raymond James Stadium is a saturated red pirate ship with wide-open end zone concourses. Palm trees and plank-walkers get the camera’s attention. Simeon Rice is going into the franchise’s ring of honor, and the team is promoting his early-aughts No. 97. Per AccuWeather, Tampa Bay could get cloudier and stormier as Sunday afternoon rolls on. That would yield a dramatic, mythic cinematography.

3. Buffalo Bills (7-4) at Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5)
There’s a cool football side-by-side under center. Buffalo has Josh Allen, reigning MVP and rolling highlight reel. He embraces contact and disorder. Pittsburgh has Aaron Rodgers, elder statesman with four MVPs. Rodgers is the oldest active player in the NFL, and Mike Tomlin says he’ll try to play this game through a fractured wrist. Big picture, it’s a critical Sunday for each locker room. The Bills are in the playoff mix, but thanks to the New England Patriots, they’re at risk of not winning the AFC East for the first time since 2019. The Steelers are in the mix as well, but their comfortable AFC North lead has been pecked away by the Baltimore Ravens.
The imagery is even cooler. Few things signal late-season stakes like gray Allegheny skies above yellow seats and swirling towels. The Steelers always wear their trademark black-and-yellow uniforms at home, with the exception of one 1933 throwback game that was announced preseason. The Bills will be wearing their usual road whites, setting up a clash on the field and sartorially.
We know what to expect at the once and former ketchup bottle. The fans will bring the noise. Sunday forecast calls for steady clouds and intermittent rain. Loud and cold. Play the hits, Pittsburgh.
2. Houston Texans (6-5) at Indianapolis Colts (8-3)
Here, we get the hottest defense versus the No. 1 offense. Let’s ride. These teams offer diametric visions of how the sport should look. Houston believes in shrinking spaces and smothering pressure. Recall what the Texans just did to Josh Allen last outing. Heading into Week 13, DeMeco Ryans’ demoralizers are first in yards allowed and second in points allowed per game. Danielle Hunter (11 sacks) and Will Anderson Jr. (10 1/2) are terrifying off the edge.
As a clean inverse, Indianapolis believes in frenetic motion and big-play dynamics. Shane Steichen has his Colts on top of the league in scoring and rushing efficiency. Blink and miss a Jonathan Taylor house call.
Let’s see if C.J. Stroud (concussion) is cleared for Sunday — he was a full participant in practice Thursday. The Texans passer had a great stint at Ohio State, but he never quarterbacked in the Big Ten championship game, which is always at Lucas Oil Stadium. He has a 2-0 record there as a pro, though. That Colts venue is one of the NFL’s most telegenic. Its crowds are packed. Its seats and sideline wrappings are solid speed blue, which really pops on screen. Its mascot is the best in the business. And the open roof/hangar combination is so beloved that Jim Irsay used to post status updates before each home game.
It’s going to be the usual home threads for Indianapolis, per Gridiron Uniform Database, with white helmets and blue jerseys. Appropriately, the Texans will be sporting the opposite: blue helmets and white jerseys.

1. Minnesota Vikings (4-7) at Seattle Seahawks (8-3)
Sam Darnold goes against the franchise that buoyed his career. That’s interesting. Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald and Vikings coordinator Brian Flores face off in a blitz package chess match. Also interesting! Justin Jefferson recently became the fastest NFL player to 8,000 receiving yards; Jaxon Smith-Njigba pursues the single-season receiving record. All good stuff, well, except for Minnesota’s quarterback situation.
But for the sake of this list, we’re here for something else. Something bigger. Something 90s.
Throwbacks are back.

Sea and forest connect like Darnold and JSN. The 12th Man bellow plus the Seattle chill prime the environment for a playoff push. The Vikings’ white-and-purple away uniforms complement the palette. Lumen Field will look excellent as we meld into our couches.
