And yet he likes a character that debuted in Mortal Kombat X

We recently learned that Dan Forden has left NetherRealm Studios after working with the Mortal Kombat series for over 30 years. Even Ed Boon himself offered a heartfelt tribute to the retirement of the “Toasty Guy” in response.
Just recently, Dan Forden appeared on a podcast for the Realm Kast and Mortal Kombat Online YouTube channel. There he talked about various things concerning Mortal Kombat.
At the beginning of the podcast, Forden was asked who his favorite character was considering that he’s been working on Mortal Kombat since its inception. With this question, Forden actually revealed that he stopped trying to play since after the second game.
“I actually don’t really play the game because it, I think at the point of Mortal Kombat 3 when combos started happening, it’s like that was like, ‘Okay. It’s beyond me at this point.’ So I don’t really play it that much,” responded Forden.
“Really, the playable stuff goes back to like the first two, which I did actually play a fair amount.”
Funnily enough, there technically were combos in the first original Mortal Kombat game. However, most of these combos were actually unintended by the developers.
As such, these sort of combos are referred to as glitches. Ultimately, these sort of combos were only possible with high level knowledge of the game.
Regardless, it’s interesting to note that Forden really seems to like a certain character that comes from one of the modern Mortal Kombat entries despite the fact that he stopped playing after the third entry. Of course, this mostly comes from the sound design aspect of the character.
“But having said that, I think one of the most incredible characters that we did was D’Vorah. I mean, like the tech we did on that and the stuff that she did and how she was used and deployed in the story mode, that really blew me away,” continued Forden.
“And it was a lot of fun because of a lot of what I did, I mean, I did a fair amount of music throughout the series, but a lot of what I did in the later years was a lot more implementation of sound effects, specifically the character sound effects, to make sure that everything’s playing for the right duration, in the right location and that it sounds good.
With D’Vorah, Forden noted how he liked how her six legs tended to make noises, though he noted how tricky it was to implement all of that. Check it all out below:
