In Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Wishblossom Ranch expansion, you can meet, befriend, and care for a variety of horses, including both original customizable mounts and beloved characters from Disney films. Interacting with your horses and increasing your bond is necessary for completing Wishblossom Ranch’s story, as your horses’ abilities are key to opening up new areas of the Wishblossom Mountains.
This guide will cover everything you need to know about horses in Wishblossom Ranch, including how to unlock them, ride them, and care for them, as well as what rewards you can earn when leveling up your horses!
How to Ride Horses
Summon your chosen mount by pressing “N” on keyboard or the Up Arrow on controller. To mount a horse, approach it and press the indicated button (“A” on controller, “E” on keyboard.) To dismount, press “B” on controller or “C” on keyboard. Once you dismount, your horse will stay near you unless you choose to send it away.
Horses have two speeds: walk and gallop. Hold down LB on controller or Shift on keyboard (the same button you use to sprint or glide when not mounted) to gallop. While galloping, you can approach an obstacle such as a hay bale or Wishblossom Root, and your horse will automatically jump over it.
You can pick up objects, speak to characters, and perform most interactions in the world while mounted. However, you must dismount to cook, take photos, change your outfit, or enter Furniture Mode.
While riding, you can also perform the following actions with your horse:
Harvest Dead Wishblossoms – Simply ride through the Wishblossom at a gallop. It will be removed and you will automatically claim any dropped rewards. Remove Red Decay Crystals – Approach the crystal while mounted and press A/E. Perform Village Tasks – As you level up your horse, you can unlock the ability to have your horse help you with tasks around the Village. Horses can help you mine (by breaking rocks with their hooves), water crops or remove Night Thorns (by galloping into/over them), and dig or harvest crops (by stomping their feet). Once you have unlocked a skill, you can perform that task while mounted.
Because you can choose in what order you unlock Valley Skills when a horse levels up, you should spread them out! For example, have one horse unlock Mining and Digging as its first skills, while another unlocks Harvesting and Watering first!
Each horse also has a different unique ability. Fortunately, should you need a specific ability, you can easily switch between mounts at any time by pressing the Summon Mount button mid-ride.
How to Level Up Horses
You can level up your horses by performing various activities with them. Leveling up your horse will unlock new skills, upgrade their abilities, and even reward you with furniture, clothing, or mount customization rewards.
Performing the following tasks allows you to increase your bond with your horse:
Brush – once per day Pet – once per day Feed – three times per day. A horse will ONLY eat its favorite items of the day Ride / Jump Over Obstacles Complete Village Tasks – mining, harvesting, watering, removing Night Thorns, or digging. You must unlock each of these skills for each horse by leveling them up
See How to Feed and Maintain Your Horses and How To Level Up Your Horses for more information!
How to Unlock All Horses – All Rewards
There are currently three Disney Horses and four custom horses you can unlock in Wishblossom Ranch. You start with one customizable Wishblossom Horse, and can later unlock more by purchasing more Stable space.
In addition, Maximus from Tangled, Khan from Mulan, and Pegasus from Hercules can be found by progressing through Story Quests. (Sven from Frozen is also available if you purchase the Deluxe Edition of the expansion.) Each horse has a different ability and is unlocked at a different point in the story:
How to Unlock Wishblossom Horses – All Rewards
You unlock your first custom horse during “A Wishful Invitation,” the first Quest in Wishblossom Ranch. Simply talk to the first Large Wishblossom in the cave Snow White directs you to, and the horse will appear in response to your wish. You can fully customize the appearance of this horse as well as naming it.
Later, you can unlock more Wishblossom Horses by using Stable Repair Kits to expand your Stables.
Wishblossom Horses have the ability to push large objects, such as carts and boulders. Simply approach the object from behind while mounted and push against it with your horse. The Wishblossom Horse unlocks the following skills and rewards when leveled up:
All Wishblossom Horses are considered one horse and share the same skills, levels, and daily favorite food items!
How to Unlock Maximus – All Rewards
The steed once determined to pursue Flynn Rider in Tangled joins Dreamlight Valley as one of the mounts available in Wishblossom Ranch. Maximus is unlocked during the Quest “Crystal Caverns: Wishing Alps.” For a more detailed guide, see How to Unlock Maximus.
Maximus can leap large distances, easily jumping over broken bridges. Simply approach a broken bridge at a gallop while riding Maximus, and he will jump over it, repairing the bridge with Pixie Dust in the process. He also has a skilled nose and can sniff out missing items and even people!
Maximus unlocks the following skills and rewards upon leveling up:
How to Unlock Khan – All Rewards
Khan is Mulan’s loyal steed who she rode to war, and he is no less loyal and brave in his appearance in Wishblossom Ranch. Khan is unlocked during the Quest “Crystal Cavern: Glamour Gulch”. For more detailed information, see How to Unlock Khan.
Khan can kick down doors with his powerful back legs, allowing you to make your way into areas of the Wishblossom Mountains that were previously blocked off to you.
Khan unlocks the following skills and rewards upon leveling up:
How to Unlock Pegasus – All Rewards
Pegasus was created by Zeus as a present for his son, Hercules. Unlike the other horses in Wishblossom Ranch, Pegasus has wings and is capable of flight. He is the last horse you unlock, and is found during the Quest “Crystal Cavern: Pixie Acres.” To learn more, see How To Unlock Pegasus.
This winged steed’s ability is to glide using tunnels of wind that can appear around the Wishblossom Ranches. Riding Pegasus allows you to move around the Ranch’s areas more quickly than the other mounts in the game.
Pegasus unlocks the following skills and rewards upon leveling up:
How to Customize Wishblossom Horses
While Maximus, Pegasus, and Khan retain their default designs and cannot be customized, your Wishblossom Horses can be designed as you like. (This makes sense, of course, because these horses are literally created from your own wishes!)
You can customize your first Wishblossom Horse’s appearance when it first shows up during the Quest “A Wishful Invitation.” After that, you can change its appearance, and the appearance of any other Wishblossom Horses, at any time by interacting with them at the Stable. (The Stable is also unlocked during “A Wishful Invitation” and can later be upgraded by crafting Stable Repair Kits.)
The following elements of Wishblossom Horses can be customized:
Name: Can be changed at any time, must be longer than two letters Appearance: Eye Color/Shape, Coat Color/Pattern, Mane and Tail Color/Style, Hoof Color Gallop Effect: Trail that appears behind your horse while you are moving at a gallop Horse Gear: Saddle, Saddle Blanket, Bridle, and Back. Found in green chests in Crystal Caverns and other areas around the Wishblossom Mountains. Stables
Access the Stable is unlocked during the story Quest “A Wishful Invitation.” It is a building in the Wishblossom Ranch area where you can keep your Wishblossom Horses when you are not actively riding them. Visit your horse in its Stable if you want to customize its appearance or gear at any time.
You start with only one stall available, but can unlock more by crafting Stable Repair Kits. Snow White will teach you how to expand the stables using materials from each Region via a Quest series called “Hold Your Horses.”
See below to learn more:
Hold Your Horses: Wishing Alps Hold Your Horses: Glamour Gulch Hold Your Horses: Pixie Acres
For each new stall you unlock, you can adopt one new Wishblossom Horse. The Stable can hold up to four horses, counting the one you create during “A Wishful Invitation.” Maximus, Pegasus, and Khan do not take up Stable slots, because they cannot be customized.
The recipes for Stable Repair Kits for each region of the Wishblossom Mountains are as follows:
Wishing Alps Pixie Dust x 10 Yellow Crocus x 10 Reclaimed Barn Wood x 10 Shiny Pyrite x 2Glamour Gulch Pixie Dust x 20 Green Silk Flower x 10 Sequin Strands x 20 Shiny Jasper x 4Pixie Acres Pixie Dust x 30 Yellow Lily of the Valley x 15 Copter Seeds x 30 Shiny Honeycomb Stone x 6
