Street Fighter 5 is now very close to 8 million copies sold

Capcom is continuing to truck along as one of the few large developers / publishers finding great success in the video game industry right now, and that’s carrying over to their fighting games too.
The company has now updated its best-selling Platinum titles page to reflect their most recent fiscal quarter, which reveals updates to the sales and rankings of their Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom games.
As was previously announced in Capcom’s financial presentation, Street Fighter 6 managed to sell an additional 500,000 or so copies between July and September after their last Platinum update, keeping up its strong pace more than two years after launching.
Street Fighter 6 now sits at 5.759 million games sold, which still leaves it right behind Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 5, but there were more fighters that saw an increase too.
Street Fighter 5 is now coming extremely close to reaching 8 million copies after nearly a decade by moving up an extra 100,000 to 7.9 million games, so it’ll probably hit that mark by its 10th birthday if not sooner.
As Capcom previously confirmed as well, the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection finally reached the 1 million mark around a year after release.
It now sits above Street Fighter Alpha 3 as Capcom’s 123rd best selling release, so it’ll be interesting to see how it continues to grow from here.
The Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection also increased by another 100,000 or so copies up to 3.7 million, so that compilation is still slowly moving its way up too.
Neither of the Capcom Fighting Collections have managed to cross the 1 million threshold yet to make it onto the list, however.
There doesn’t seem to be any other fighters that have increased in numbers, but Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3’s rerelease has finally pushed past the original Marvel vs. Capcom 3 — so the game is still making some progress as well with only Infinite ahead of it in the series.
While not every game saw a boost in sales this quarter, a good chunk of Capcom’s fighters are still pushing more copies at a strong rate.
Capcom did hope to see Street Fighter 6 reach 10 million copies sold in its life, and that’s looking like an easily achievable goal since they’re already almost 60% of the way there.
Plus, they’re probably about to serve up a bunch more copies with Street Fighter 6 currently marked down on sale by 50%.
