Plus they detail the upcoming interesting online lobby mode

The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is now hours away from releasing, and we’re still learning a bit about what’s included and what’s coming after launch.

Digital Eclipse has now confirmed the full list of Mortal Kombat titles that support online play in the compilation as well as detailing the upcoming online lobby mode with some interesting and unique features.

Between the 23 games included in the Kollection, 15 of them will offer netplay with rollback netcode.

Basically, that equates to all of the arcade and home console versions of the first four Mortal Kombat titles, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy.

There is one exception to that, however, as the developers are stating the original Nintendo Switch cannot play Mortal Kombat 4 online due to technical limitations, but will work normally for local play.

The Switch 2 version does not have this limitation at least.

• Mortal Kombat (Arcade, SNES, Genesis)

• Mortal Kombat 2 (Arcade, SNES, Genesis, 32X)

• Mortal Kombat 3 (Arcade, SNES, Genesis)

• Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Arcade, SNES)

• Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 – Wavenet (Arcade)

• Mortal Kombat Trilogy (PlayStation)

• Mortal Kombat 4 (Arcade)

As was previously announced, their handheld Mortal Kombat offerings will unfortunately not have online features, and it sounds like there’s no plans to add them in the immediate future.

Similarly, they already confirmed that online lobbies, a ranked mode nor cross-platform play will not be available at launch with the only option being quick casual matches.

Digital Eclipse has, however, put together a launch FAQ for the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, which describes what they’re currently putting together for lobbies that they’re calling Online Arcade Mode.

“An Online Arcade feature is currently in development, which will give players the opportunity to create private or public rooms, select the games they want to play, and invite friends to join in. Each room can host up to 16 players, and multiple games can be played simultaneously; think of it as your personal Mortal Kombat game room, filled with just the games you love most (including multiples of any given game – so if you want two or three instances of the same game in your lobby, you can do that!). On individual games within the room, players rotate playing in a classic arcade ‘winner stays’ queue structure or they can choose to simply spectate.”

The developers claim this lobby suite will be more ambitious than any they’ve attempted for previous titles, and that’s understandable since we can’t think of another compilation that lets you play multiple games within the same instance.

Their plan is to update the Kollection with the new mode within a few weeks after launch, but that could be subject to change after more testing and approvals.

We’ve also recently gotten to see a preview of what the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection has to offer as well as its Training Mode suite and some new features for the titles themselves.

The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is set to release digitally on October 30 for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam with a physical version coming in December.
