The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is set to be released digitally on October 30, 2025. Those that want a physical copy will have to wait until December 12, 2025.
Mortal Kombat Trilogy (the PlayStation version) is one of the games that will be featured in the Legacy Kollection. Digital Eclipse, the developers behind the Legacy Kollection, have already talked about how they’ve gone out of their way to resolve the loading bugs of Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
Those that remember playing Mortal Kombat Trilogy many years ago might remember how annoying it was to fight against Shang Tsung. During gameplay, he had the ability to shapeshift into any other character, though this required that the player remember quite an extensive library of special moves.
“In the original game, there would often be a lengthy pause whenever Shang Tsung morphed into a different character; now it’s instant, thanks to our code tweaks.” — Digital Eclipse
However, it wasn’t actually Shang Tsung’s incredible arsenal of available moves that made him “annoying” to fight against. Rather, it was the long loading pause that would trigger every time Shang Tsung attempted to transform into another combatant.
In a recent clip, Digital Eclipse highlighted how they’ve even addressed this issue. Going forward, Shang Tsung will be able to shapeshift into any other character without the need of a loading period.
“When our engineers examined Mortal Kombat Trilogy’s code, they found areas where loading time could be optimized, so we did that!” said Digital Eclipse in a recent social media post. “In the original game, there would often be a lengthy pause whenever Shang Tsung morphed into a different character; now it’s instant, thanks to our code tweaks.”
Of course, the developers were quick to point out how this is “exclusive” to the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Shang Tsung could potentially become more popular in this game due to this adjustment.
It’s also interesting to note that there are options being added that will lessen the mental load on the players themselves. Once again, we can see this in action during the posted clip.
Players can have it so that their character’s special moves are listed on the side. In case the player forgets, they can quickly refresh themselves on how to perform specific attacks.
One might think this feature would become obsolete while playing as Shang Tsung once a transformation to another character is initiated. Fortunately, it would seem that the list of moves will seamlessly transition to the next character’s move pool.
Shang Tsung ends up morphing into Scorpion. After a little while, he reverts back to Shang Tsung, but is able to then instantly transform into Cyber Smoke.
