The MSI supplied power adapter burned on me yesterday; luckily the card was okay. This was a vertically mounted MSI 5090 Gaming Trio OC, with the power adapter inserted fully and going straight down into the card: no bends whatsoever.
The symptom was the game suddenly crashing when I would load a save game. There was no smoke nor smells beforehand. My guess is that it simmered slowly over multiple play sessions, ultimately burning enough that the cable couldn’t carry enough power to the card.
EDIT: Just to clarify, this is the yellow 12vhpwr MSI power adapter that came with the GPU. With my older power supply, it was either this adapter or a DIY power cable, and I mistakenly thought this adapter is "safer".
