This is the original ending of Blade Runner (1982). It is also the ending I prefer. Director Ridley Scott wasn't too happy with this ending, it was forced upon him by his executives, and in later cuts of this movie he omitted this scene as well as Harrison Ford's voiceover.

This scene is a bright contrast to the dystopian, dark, decadent and polluted megacity scenes from the rest of the movie. Here we see Deckard (Harrison Ford) and Rachael (Sean Young) driving in a cyberpunk car through forest covered mountains, obviously a couple. We get to know that Rachael is a special replicant, with no "exterminating date", meaning that she doesn't have the short life of other replicants. The helicopter flyover that ends this scene is from leftover shots from Stanley Kubrick's the Shining.

Rachael is at her most beautiful here and the music of Vangelis is at its most beautiful here as well.

I can live without Deckard's monolouge in the original Blade Runner, but I can't live without a happy ending for Rachael.

Which ending do you prefer, this one or the darker ending in the director's cut?
