It’s Tech Tuesday, and that means I’ve gone swimming through the vast ocean that is the internet, hunting down the coolest tech gadgets I can find. And man, have I found something that has really got the hairs on the back of my neck standing up!
As an avid tabletop gamer, I’m always excited when I see new, cool-looking miniatures pop up on my feed. This time, however, I’ve found a standee that could become my go-to miniature for every game I play.
The Doppel is a digital Standee with two screens facing the back and front of the device, a built-in speaker, motion detection and a non-slip base, making it perfect for interactive tabletop gaming.

The idea behind it is that you can upload digital artwork, in the form of JPEGs, GIFs, and even MP4s, as well as audio files, to create a virtual miniature that can be quickly changed on the go, depending on the game you’re playing, or even what’s going on on the table right now.
The Doppel connects to a phone app, on both iOS and Android, via Bluetooth connection, which allows you to customise the images on the screen, create sound effects linked to motion and change up the LED colour on the bottom of the base.
The device itself fits into a standard 1-inch grid, packs a 600mAh battery for up to 8 hours of gameplay and has 64GB of storage for a neat collection of different characters, all hot-swappable via the app.
The device has run a successful Kickstarter campaign, but is still on Gamefound for anyone who wants to back the project now that the Kickstarter has ended.
