Seeing the recent posts on the upcoming Hellraiser game reminded me of Clive Barker's Undying. Let's take a walk down that memory lane.
Launched in 2001, Undying was unique in several ways. It was a PC excluisve developed by EA (so I won't be surprised if you haven't heard or played it); it was one of the early mainstream horror FPS, following Blood/Hexen's ancient trail; and it was very good – a proper horror complete with high quality scares, spooky atmosphere, interesting locales, gripping story and competent shooting.
Unfortunately it didn't do well enough to generate a sequel 😣 Today this game is only available on GOG I think. Check it out if you haven't.
Honorable mention, well actually the only remaining Clive Barker game, was Jericho. A squad-based shooter out in 2007. It wasn't a bad game, had some good scares and proper shooting too, but by then the genre was already choked full of great titles and it was soon lost in anonymity.
Lastly, i feel i should mention – Clive Barker was at one point the closest writer to Stephen King and if you fancy some off the beaten path reading, check out his Book of Blood collection. Phenomenal.
