Hey all! This was my first attempt at building a standing desk back in 2019 when all I had was a basic power drill and a hole saw attachment kit to make some cable management holes and I built it on the floor of my apartment.
Above is its current state in 2025.

  • Home Depot Butcher Block Countertop

  • VIVO Manually adjustable sit/stand frame

  • VIVO CPU Mount

  • VIVO Desk Drawer and laptop shelf

  • VIVO Spine cable management chain

  • Harman/Kardon Soundsticks 4

  • Keychron Q14 Max

  • Logitech MX Master 3S

  • FIIO K11 R2R headphone DAC/Amp

  • Apos x Audio-Technica ATH-R70x Refine headphones

  • Razer Strider Chroma RGB Mat

  • AVLT RGB Monitor Arm

  • PHILIPS EVNIA 34” OLED monitor

  • Custom PC built in Razer Tomahawk Chassis

  • ….. and more.

I’m happy with the result, given my limited tools, but I’m planning another standing desk, which will integrate a two or three tiered design (shelves) but rather than cutting grommet holes, I’d like to make a channel cut all the way through the depth of the countertop so that cables could freely pass through at any point. You may also see an example of an existing desk incorporating this as a design element here: https://www.carettaworkspace.com/products/artistic-series-desks

If I could accomplish it with a dremel and straight edge attachments, that’d be great, but before I purchase some additional tools I thought I’d ask what the ideal route is.

Still have the drill, hole saw kit, basic hand tools, a right angled square edge and a hand saw, but didn’t think any of those would be sufficient.

Thank you for your feedback!
