Something less than inspiring.

I spent a lot of time with the crafting system in Star Wars: The Old Republic. I got good at that system. This is not exactly something to be proud of, because the crafting system in SWTOR is frankly awful. It’s like someone set out to design the least interactive crafting system possible, and yet somehow I spent a lot of time on it. I actually started to really enjoy it over time, and so it became a major part of my gameplay even though I could point to dozens of ways in which it was bad.

It’s hardly unique in that regard, though. But so often we enjoy games in spite of their weakest aspects. Today, I want to focus on the inverse. Are there any MMORPGs with systems that you love even though you know they’re terrible? You know that this combat system isn’t good, or this crafting is terrible, or fishing is a mess, but darn it you genuinely like it?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
