Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster originally came out back in 2013, but it didn’t make its way to Nintendo fans until the Switch version dropped in 2019. That release gave faithful followers of the Big N their first chance to see why millions around the world love these titles, and it also gave us a glimpse at an Easter egg so specific that even some Square Enix devs didn’t know about it.
The original prototype for Final Fantasy X was called “Seventeen Angelic Impact x Devil’s Shock,” and a very small part of that prototype still exists within FFX. There’s one area in particular where a piece of art for “Seventeen Angelic Impact x Devil’s Shock” is on display in the background, but it’s a bit blurry and hard to make out. Turns out even Square Enix employees themselves didn’t know what they were looking at when it came time to work on the remaster.
As you can see in the clip above, whoever was working on updating assets for Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster had no clue what the artwork for “Seventeen Angelic Impact x Devil’s Shock” was. This led to them completely removing the prototype reference and creating a unique piece of art on their own. While it’s a bummer that prototype art got culled for Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, it’s pretty funny that the remaster now contains its own Easter egg because of the decision!
