My parents their pc was getting a little slow so upgraded it with an i7 7700. Motherboard is a h110hds which only supports up to 7th gen and they are not gonna OC so this was the best option for them. They only use it for browsing and light steam games so it’s fine for the time being and could get a secondhand for just 25 euros.
Temps were a bit high so went for a delid and I’m not disappointed! I think the thermal paste was done for because it was really dry and cracked. For the delid I just used a vice. This is my 4th delid and in a vice you can apply just enough pressure and feel the glue popping. When it pops you let off the pressure and take off the IHS. Replaced the paste with Liquid Metal and to be sure I protected the 4 copper dots with some nail polish.
Stress test prime95 before delid (after 21 mins)
Max 71 degrees.
Average 63
After delid (38 mins)
Max 53 degrees
Average 49
This is with a Scythe Mugen 4. My dad is a real stickler when it comes to sounds so I’m glad I could lower the temp so the fans can stay as low as possible.
