A recent Military.com story covered the hobby of tabletop war games building community among service members. The games are descendants of Prussian war training games developed to prepare young soldiers for battlefield strategy.
Games such as Axis and Allies and even science fiction-leaning games like Warhammer 40,000 are played at bases to develop community and strategy skills.
“Participating in different games provides a great chance to learn lessons, but also a great chance to develop your own community,” said Matt Keeler, a member of the tabletop games community. “The military is a great opportunity to learn from a multitude of intelligent people that tackle situations differently.”
