The tree that Sagat kicks into the air and destroys with a Tiger Uppercut in his Street Fighter 6 teaser trailer is a callback to artwork from 1992 featuring the former antagonist from the original game.
The developers of Street Fighter 6 have shown a lot of care and attention to detail when referencing past things in the franchise, and while this made for an epic moment in Sagat’s introduction video, this is actually a callback to artwork from the Street Fighter Memorial Album, which was released in 1992, according to Digital Eclipse.
This artwork was included in the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary collection as part of the history of the franchise, and the 1992 art book, the Street Fighter Memorial Album, is said to give an inside look into the lives of the World Warriors.
The fact that Capcom created a whole teaser trailer based around this powerful image is a great reference to the roots of the series, where Sagat was known as one of the deadliest fighters around.
While we don’t know the details of Sagat’s storyline just yet in Street Fighter 6, it’s possible he’s still struggling with the Satsui no Hado, as this was his central plot in the prior game, Street Fighter 5.
