MITCHELL — A potent offense continues to produce runs in bunches for the Mitchell Gold 16-and-under baseball team.
Mitchell Gold pushed its winning streak to nine consecutive games with doubleheader sweep of the Aberdeen Smitty’s 16U squad at Cadwell Park, rallying in the sixth inning to pick up a 10-5 win in Game 1 before scoring 10 runs in the third inning en route to winning Game 2 19-4 in four innings.
Nolan Widstrom jumped on the first pitch he saw in the sixth inning and laced a base hit into center field, keying a six-run inning after Mitchell was trailing 5-4 in the game. Widstrom scored on a fielding error by Aberdeen to tie the game, while Ethan Hegg drove in the go-ahead run on a ground out.

Brayden Reindl was 2-of-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in Game 1, as Mitchell totaled nine hits and drew five walks. Hegg and Avery Kaus drove in a run each while Brady Hoesing picked up two hits and an RBI at the plate. He also struck out eight batters in four innings on the mound.
Each member of Mitchell Gold’s starting lineup in Game 2 drove in a run, as the team used a 10-run third inning and a five-run fourth to force the early end to the game, despite collecting eight hits. Bailor Kristensen drew two of Mitchell’s 11 walks in the game, finishing 1-of-2 with two RBIs.
Hoesing drove in a run on a hit and scored three times in the game and Jack Massey scored twice and picked up two RBIs from the leadoff spot in the batting order. Gage Schmidt worked all four innings to record the pitching win, allowing two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
Mitchell Gold (15-5) will battle Brandon on the road at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 7, in a doubleheader.

Borgan’s strong day powers Mitchell Black
Owen Borgan came through for the Mitchell Black 14-and-under teeners multiple times on Wednesday.
Borgan drove in six runs across Mitchell’s doubleheader sweep of Aberdeen at Drake Field, while also working the final 2 1/3 innings in relief in the team’s 11-5 victory in Game 1. Mitchell opened Game 2 with a 13-run first inning, completing the sweep with a 19-4 win in three innings.
Madden Graves posted a strong two-way effort in Game 1, going 2-of-2 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. He also fanned six Aberdeen hitters in 4 2/3 innings to record the pitching win, allowing four total hits. Borgan only allowed a hit and collected a strikeout during his outing to finish Game 1.
Matt Peterson drove in a run on a hit for the game, with eight different Mitchell players driving in at least a run. Karsten Herges was 1-of-3 with an RBI and run scored while Bryson Schlimgen picked up two hits and scored once, and Blake Rehorst came across home plate twice.

In Game 2, Schlimgen was 3-of-3 with four runs batted in, picking up a pair of RBI singles in the first inning. Mitchell sent 18 batters to the plate in the 13-run opening frame, scoring five of those runs with two outs.
Borgan also finished 3-of-3 with four RBIs, while Gavin Mendenhall and Noah Bennett each drove in three runs and picked up one hit. Bennett also pitched all three innings in the shortened game, striking out two. Cash Evers finished with two RBIs and a run scored.
Mitchell Black (14-11) will travel to Winner for a doubleheader, beginning at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8.
