Mortal Kombat co-creator, Ed Boon, said that the cast of the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 film did well, after he watched a screening of the new movie that’s set to be released on October 24, 2025.

We’re also set to see a trailer for the film in July, but Ed Boon already got a sneak peak of the final movie and stated that some of the actors “Nailed it!”

You can check out all of the Mortal Kombat 2 movie skins from MK1 to get an idea of how the cast will look in the new film, and we’ve also posted stills from the film itself showcasing various members of the cast like Shao Kahn, Kitana, Johnny Cage and Scorpion.

Speaking of the original Mortal Kombat film, released in 1995, Ed Boon didn’t initially expect that the franchise would take off like it did.

“And the same thing with the production team that made the first Mortal Kombat movie. I was literally saying ‘You’re really overestimating how appealing this thing is’,” said Boon a ways back.

“I had no idea. We’re in the middle of it, so we had no idea how big [Mortal Kombat had] gotten, and I was just warning them, to make sure they knew what they were doing,” he added.

“Between Acclaim and the producers of the first movie, they really stuck their neck out and they helped elevate Mortal Kombat into popular culture, no doubt,” concluded Boon.

It’ll be interesting to see if the new film is as well received as some of the others in the franchise.
