Legendary’s Street Fighter reboot has found its Chun-Li. The fan-favorite video game character will be portrayed by Callina Liang.

Per Deadline, Liang has been cast as Chun-Li, a martial artist and Interpol officer who seeks revenge for the death of her father by the series’ antagonist M. Bison. She first appeared in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, which was developed and published by Capcom in 1991 for arcades. As for Liang, she’s a relative newcomer to the industry, with only four major acting credits to her name. She made her debut in the first season of the ITVX teen drama Tell Me Everything, which premiered in 2022. Liang then appeared as a young Rue Corintha in a 2023 episode of Foundation before landing the lead role in the 2024 heist thriller Bad Genius. Her most recent acting credit was in the Steven Soderbergh-directed supernatural thriller Presence, which was released in theaters earlier this year by Neon.

Jason Momoa is in talks to join Legendary’s Street Fighter reboot along with a major WWE star and two previously rumored actors.

Who Has Been Cast in Street Fighter So Far?

Liang joins a cast that currently includes Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, and Orville Peck. Legendary has yet to officially confirm any casting report, meaning that fans technically don’t know who anyone is playing. However, previous reports have indicated that Koji has been cast as the main character Ryu, with Centineo playing his best friend Ken Masters. Reigns and Momoa have reportedly been tapped for Akuma and Blanka, respectively, while Peck will play the masked fighter Vega, which is fitting considering that the country musician is known for wearing a mask in public.

Walton Goggins is also in talks to join the ensemble as M. Bison, the main antagonist of the Street Fighter series. He was previously portrayed in live-action by Raúl Juliá and Neal McDonough in the 1994 and 2009 Street Fighter movies.

Legendary’s Street Fighter reboot will be the franchise’s fourth live-action movie, after the 1994 original, 2009’s The Legend of Chun-Li, and 2014’s Assassin’s Fist, none of which share continuity. The reboot has been in development since 2023 and was originally set to be directed by Talk to Me filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou. However, the filmmaking duo departed from the project in June 2024 due to scheduling conflicts, with Kitao Sakurai being tapped as their replacement earlier this year.
