The DLC roadmap for Tekken 8 is well known, but it recently underwent a color change to the original character slot that’s set to happen in the Winter time.

“We’re currently in production, so I cannot reveal any details, but one thing I can say is that after announcing the original character slot for this new character, we made several design changes, and as a result, the default costume’s image color is no longer green or turquoise (at least at this point),” Katsuhiro Harada wrote on X.

Responding to a user who said the color hints in the roadmap were meaningless from the start, the Tekken Project Executive Game Director had this to say.

“To be precise, it’s a matter of hindsight: It used to carry meaning, but it no longer does. That doesn’t mean your guess was correct from the beginning,” Harada added.

It’s interesting to see these behind the scenes details that we usually do not get, as characters can undergo a multitude of changes for various reasons during development.

Sometimes moves, animations and costumes need to be changed so that the visuals make for a better gameplay experience, although Harada didn’t give any specifics for why Bandai Namco made this change in Tekken 8.

Considering there are a lot of people in the community who enjoy guessing which character may be coming based on the colors shown in the DLC roadmap, this is another potential breadcrumb trail to follow.

The amount of times the Fighting Game Community has successfully pieced together clues from small amounts of details are truly outstanding, so it’ll be interesting to see if people are able to deduce who this new character may be based on these details.
