Combo Breaker 2025 has been underway this past weekend. Over 1,300 entrants are participating at the Street Fighter 6 tournament being held there while 1,100 signed up for Tekken 8.
This provides us with a great opportunity to see how the metagames are developing for both titles. As such, we’ll be looking at the characters being used by the top 64 performing players to get an idea of which characters are the strongest right now.
Mai and Akuma appear to be particularly dominant in Street Fighter 6 right now. Both characters have eight players apiece using them, but Mai managed to edge Akuma out with two more players using her as a secondary.
M. Bison, Juri, Ryu and Ken are also looking quite strong at the moment since they also saw decent representation. In total, 22 out of 25 characters saw usage in the top 64 portion of the bracket.
For Tekken 8, it looks like Jin is coming across as a dominant force after patch version 2.01 was released. Seven players ended up using him in the top 64, but none of them made it into the top 8.
31 out of 37 characters ultimately saw usage in the top 64. Though Tekken 8’s balance felt like it was in a weird place at the start of Season 2, it’s beginning to look like the developers are taking things in the correct direction as a decent number of combatants feel viable at the moment.
