The reason the damascus camo looks like this is because it's titanium damascus. From now on im calling damascus titanium. It can also be called titanium mokume or timascus as some people call it that in the forging community. This fact makes me appreciate damascus a bit more.

Too bad it doesn’t look like the real Damascus camo
Damascus is just forged steel that’s twisted and pounded. This is titanium Damascus, which is masse by pounding titanium together and heating it up. It’s commonly called “Timascus”
