How would you feel if the next Xbox was a small PC that had an Xbox app? $600 Console/PC hybrid that beats the price to performance of what you can build for $600

Probably would be a great buy for young people that may need a pc for school work especially if they included microsoft office with the xbox service
Lisata598
I wouldn’t be surprised if it were but I would be if it were to have a fully unlocked bootloader to load a full version of Windows/Linux due to how consoles have traditionally been loss leaders for selling software/services.

The Xbox is a small PC
Zepanda66
Depends on the specs and how upgradeable it is.
Brian_K9
problem is it couldnt be 600. They break even or lose money on hardware for soft ware sales. If MS sold xbox with windows they would need to make alot of hardware profit to justify it
Uhmattbravo
That’s already a thing, except they don’t want you turning off the Xbox app. Was going to say you can’t, but I’m sure someone would be able to disagree with that.
HalflingElf
There’s a reason why consoles are cheap but don’t let you use your own OS.
Because how are they going to make any money off you if you’re downloading your own games and not buying directly from their store?
DeanDeau
I bet the next xbox is a dedicated gaming OS. probably called WindowsX.
xxdibxx
Only if it were ram and HD upgradable with open market parts. No more of this proprietary crap and limited ram.

*Will* we get another Xbox generation after this??
AwesomArcher8093

Isn’t an Xbox a small PC??
StConvolute
They already lock it down to much, you can’t run mods for example. This is how we ended up with the Apple Mono-system.
Hard no from me.

Port DX to Linux…

Assuming you mean a real PC that runs normal Windows: Obviously for consumers that would be awesome. But for Microsoft, it would be terrible.
Microsoft doesn’t want to sell Xboxes. They want to sell games on Xbox (because they get a big cut of those sales, regardless of retailer).
But if you could just buy the xbox and then buy all of your games on Steam (therefore no cut going to Microsoft), how would Microsoft make any money? Like, I don’t *care* how Microsoft would make money, but they sure do and there’s no reason for them to do this.
oldmonk_97
Easiest purchase of my life.. But i suspect it wouldnt rock windows… But some type of Linux… And that would be a double win
vfrflying
Would that mean that it would be theoretically possible to just spoof a pc into being an Xbox?
millanstar
You can’t even upgrade the storage of current xbox without using their own propietary SSDs, wouldnt trust them on the upgradabilty if they where to make a mini pseudo PC
f0xsky
xbox is subsidized by xbox live; if it works like a PC it will be bought by businesses at terminals or similar applications and MSFT will lose a ton of money
Wappening
I’d nut.
ArmoredAngel444
That would be legit and is the route i hope they take or Xbox is probably finished as a physical device.
Agreeable-War7427
That’s a PC, you’re describing a normal PC.
Super_Ad9995
An XBOX is a PC with a custom operating system.
Proof_Version6450
Good for people who want a very simple gaming experience with a controller that also want a web browser
DanTheMan827
A small PC that ran windows along with an Xbox mode would be awesome for home theaters. The cheaper price of a game console with the flexibility of a PC… as long as it isn’t locked down.
IfarmExpIRL
if microsoft was smart enough to this they would crush. I had a buddy that bought an xbox and refused to buy a PC and that kind of drove a wedge between us because we could not game together. if this was the case we could of enjoyed games together.
i like to build PCs and i keep and maintain a “2nd gaming computer” that has very mild specs but my friends can play games when they come and for my kids.
I would sell that 2nd pc and replace it with this in a heartbeat.
Emu1981
I think that this would suffer the same fate as the PS3 and it’s Linux mode. The more access you give people on the console the easier it is going to be for them to break out of the secured sandbox and jailbreak the system.
FlapSmear78
I would buy it. My laptop can’t run the latest games, and my newest console is a v2 Switch. My ps3 and Vita are my retro consoles.
louiscools2005
I think it’d be cool, but I don’t see it happening.

I would feel the same thing I feel about xbox now. Nothing.

No matter how great it sounds on paper, Microsoft would muck it up:
1. They’d require either online access or promise lots of “storage” only for it to be OneDrive. 2. The point of a PC is to install the programs you want, Microsoft has looked at the iOS “walled garden” with drooling envy. They’d lock this down so that only approved programs and “apps” could be installed. 3. Right to repair – Microsoft may not like the idea of customers taking their “XboxPC” to just any old repair place. With a PC you can take it to any good PC tech and get it fixed. Micrsoft would see $$$ and say “only authorized repair centers can fix it”.

It depends. Is it going to have a default dash that’s essentially a giant wall of ads? Because that’s why I don’t use my Series X anymore 🤣

I’m surprised this gen didn’t have a steam app actually
