I want to use Linux but I also want to still be able to play my games without a ton of issues. lol

I am starting to get the linux users. Not because linux is improving. Improving a product over time is natural.
I am starting to get it because windows is getting worse. And once Steam ends support for Windows 10, i am switching to linux too.
I know you can disable ads and popups from windows 11. But at that point i would have already paid for windows 11. At that point they have my money and probably know more about my personal life than my own mother. Why would they need to annoy me AFTER i bought their product? The first time i saw a screenshot from the popups i actually thought “is that a virus?”.

I use linux daily but it isn’t for everyone, for me it was a two year long process to actually feel comfortable switching to linux.
First i decided to switch to use as many open source software as possible since i know it’s likely to be multiplatform and available on linux and will be free and not painful, after that i started experimenting with homelabbing, then i got familiar with linux and it’s components, and about 6 months ago, i decided to give it a fair try, tried pop os,nope not for me, tried debian, alright but still not for me, tried nobara, bingo, that was the one.
Linux gaming in itself is pretty simple for me, all of what i play runs fine on Linux with proton, even the games with anticheats, so the transition was fairly easy, it’s been 6 months, and i’m not planning on going back to windows which is getting worse every single update
I think people should give a fair try to linux, because it is widely different from what it was 5 years ago, my only recommendation is that you should learn how things should be done on linux, it doesn’t work the same way as windows and if you adapt yourself to linux, you will get it.

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux is in fact GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it GNU plus Linux.

I daily drive Linux mint. The weird pseudo superiority complex surrounding linux in general is really odd, and is definitely bad for the OS. The amount of people afraid of asking simple questions due to fear of being insulted is such a shame.
I always come back to the video of linus where he asks for help on a pop_os forum about running a specific program, and after some back and forth the forum members just say ‘*oh well you shouldn’t want to do that’.* Gold.

I want linux for my laptop so bad. Windows 11 is such hot garbage for performance but I can’t get Linux to properly interact with some laptop systems.

It seems so hard to just, accept windows is better as a desktop os (yes due to compatibility and familiarity.. unfair but the truth) and linux is better for other purposes, servers, home NAS and whatever, linux rules.
