New to overclocking, first pc. My motherboard is shutting down when stressing the cpu. I am using the coffeetime exploit to run an i9 9800hk on an MSI Z270i mobo. With the z270 bios the current limit was set to 120A by default and the cpu would only run at 3.6ghz all core increasing the current limit to 140A would see 4.2ghz all core but increasing beyond that would cause a shutdown (cpu is not crashing the power is being stopped supplying). I cross flashed a z370 bios and was pleased to see the cpu running at stock speed of 4.4ghz all core under load however when I go past 4.6ghz all core the mobo shuts off again. I know the cpu can go much further because if I disable half the cores I can go to 5ghz all core. I think the motherboard is shutting down due to a cpu over current protection which has to be able to be changed since flashing the bios improved it. I have tried a different psi and vrm temps are fine (no temp sensor readable by windows but I can comfortably hold my finger on them as long as they have airflow). Is this a problem over lockers encounter and does anyone know of a solution? Thanks, I hope it can be solved.
