
I'm repasting a gpu for a mate who i'm building a pc for, we got our hands on a gigabyte 5700xt but it had horrible hotspot issues…
We're talking core temps: 76c, hotspot 115c throttling levels in basic games/timespy, almost instantly.
I have never opened a gpu before…
I brought some ptm7950 (Unsure if real but we will see), gelid extremes 1.5mm and 0.5mm.
I repaded/pasted the gpu and was met with worse temps almost everywhere, hotspot was slightly better but that's about it but somehow my timespy gpu score went from 8401 -> 9350.
I wasn't happy so i reopened the gpu, all the pads are on the correct chips but one lot of memory pads were stuck on the heatsink not the chips. I could see imprints on almost all of them with one being very feint/barely visible.
I reconnected the heatsink and tightened the screws more, this time the temps seem better.
Timespy hit 92c on hotspot down from 111c and score jumps another few 100.
Stock -> repad -> open/tighten
8401-> 9350 -> 9533
The concern is, although this time the hotspot is better, the core temps are better, my memory temps are still higher than stock.
At stock my memory temps were 76c in timespy, now they're 82c. And testing some games, they went from 80c -> 88c.

Do i accept the higher memory temps for lower core + hotspot? The card is no longer throttling.

I put Gelid extreme 0.5mm on the Memory chips
Gelid Extreme 1.5mm on VRM chips.
PTM 7950 0.2mm on the core.
