In The Simpsons Season 1 Episode 5 “Bart The General”, released in early 1990, there is a scene where Bart is imagining facing off with school bully Nelson Muntz after school. Bart is very fearful of this and thinking up scenarios in his head and in one scene he is shown pulling out a PPSh-41 with a drum mag and emptying the entire drum at an indomitable Nelson to no effect. I haven’t seen this episode in forever but got a laugh out of the choice of gun the artists used. The episodes from that era were riddled with historical war references and probably more Cold War references than I can remember.
