they’re pretty great in terms of it being metriodvania making it easy to tell where you’ve been and what you you still need to explore. just a bit of an eyesore, but you get used to it.

Navigation is a pain in this game sometimes. I’m having fun with it, but I find myself looking up guides for this game more than most other games because there have been a lot of parts where I had no idea where to go or what to do next. Something like a compass or better defined objective markers would be a huge help in this game.
Calvin1991
Compared with control this is crystal clear
Holiday_Box9404
This looks like Starfield lol

I….don’t find it bad. I had no issues using it and knowing where I was when using the map. I can’t properly track how to get from A to B, but that’s more so due to the level layout and less so due to the map. Unless you are talking about level layout and not about its visual representation.
Sensitive_Pay2990
my friend refuses to get into this game because the first games map was abhorrently bad. i keep telling him “but this ones a little bit better..”
Pearcinator
It’s not that bad really. I didn’t have much trouble with it.
Although 3D maps aren’t the best…I really appreciate Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom’s map. It’s 2D but elevation is colour-coded (white being high-altitude and blue/brown being sea-level) and designed like a topographical map with the lines of elevation. The ability to see everywhere you’ve previously travelled helps a lot for exploration as well!
Dauntless_Lasagna
Map design peaked with the metroid prime games.

Part of the fun in these games for me is figuring out where to go but I can see how people find it annoying maybe.
I think the level design in these games is fantastic.

This map was much improved than fallen order. Doesn’t mean it’s good, but not as dumpster fire.
The worst ones I’ve seen are:
Fallen Order
Control
Rise of Kong
SageModeSpiritGun
Turn on the map thingy in the settings. I don’t remember what they call it, but it helps show you where the exits to areas are, and where to go for the next thing you need to do.
I appreciate *not* having a glowing line to the objective, and I did not feel like it was overstepping. It was just nice to be able to pull up the map and see a spot for the transition to the next zone.
lightmatter501
* Rogue
* Nethack
* Dwarf fortress without a tileset
All classic games, but their status is very much in spite of their default graphics.
doofwarrior007
It really is. Especially on a planet like that too. Where even making your way around is hard enough.

The map alone is what had me quit this game halfway through. It’s so frustrating.
MistandYork
Uh this map is great, I call skill issue

Starfield has entered the chat.

I’m playing control and I would LOVE to be able to see three dimensions in the map!

Maybe it’s my age showing, but I found the map to be just fine
There are waaay worse maps than Jedi S and FO
Are they the best? No, but they were functional
celticFcNo1
Turn the navigation assist on and it provides a marker on the map for each room you are in. It allows you to always progress the story. Not much help in trying to find rumours, chests etc.
Zealousideal-Ad4437
It’s funnier when you realize they said this second map would be better than the first one. Got survivor on the recent sale and I have never been more disappointed
who-dat-ninja
They learned nothing from the first game. It’s basically the same game except BIGGER. I was very disappointed
justinsytsma
I loved both games, but seriously yes. I get the vibe they were after (it looks Star Wars-y) but it’s so annoying to navigate
UnloadingMeat
This map gives me such anxiety. It’s why I shelved it for a year before starting again.
Cheeseburger2137
I agree that there were moments where it confused me a but, but I appreciate how it helps you track places you have not visited yet. It may not be perfect, but it does a decent job representing really complex, sometimes very vertical levels with non-obvious paths.
AxiomDJ
Dude absolute garbage lmao, hated it.

The map for “Control” is pretty ass.
szartenger
I’d say the PC performance is worse than the map. Fucking stutterfest. Probably the worst port I’ve ever played.

Yes! Both titles have the worse map design
It just takes some getting used to
Maybe the designers also had untamed downs
Have you seen Starfield’s map?
Worst map in gaming IMO is Control
