I think there is no big problem with same assets, but a big one with same lighting (top down day light), foggy look (washed out everything) and green color palette.
This map needs contrast by removing fog and different sun angle to look somewhat different from Ancient, maybe just the hard shadows can bring unique look itself.

I agree with everything you said about Ancient. Valve could've at least put that wooden bridge from Aztec (the inaccessible one used in Ancient's T-spawn) someplace on the map to give it some of the same jungle personality that Aztec had, but no, it uses a very generic 4-square layout that you could probably find from a thousand workshop maps already at the time of its release. I don't hate Ancient, but I hope that Valve intended on giving Shoots the same aesthetic so that they can remove Ancient from active duty (or the game entirely) and replace it with something else, then keep Shoots around as the map to show off that same theme Ancient had.
When is a gift not a gift?
I would love to see more non-ancient style tropical maps. My favourite operation map in CS:GO was always de_seaside, and one of the operations had a map with a construction site and red sand in the middle of a jungle (can’t remember what it was called). I really think there’s a lot of potential in using the global south as a setting- be it the Colombian mountains, rainforests of Brazil, red sand and jungles of southeast Africa etc.
Disappointed the jump up on the wooden lip near the stairs is gone.

It’s so bland and colorless…
Not only the map itself but the playermodels, this map used to have the pirate playermodels, which imo was one of the coolest playermodels, but now they've gone.
My game theory is that valve is deliberately trying to make the game more politically neutral. CSGO's old dilapidated maps seem incredibly real in comparison. Maybe they didnt like how the old shoots felt like it was once a lived-in area of a 3rd world country. We are no longer just blowing peoples heads off for fun in what looks like it could have been a village. Its a lot more value neutral to be fighting in, like, a decomissioned power plant or an uninhabited construction site or some archeological dig. Theres still some exceptions in the game but id say its for this reason they also got rid of most of the real world t and ct skins. It informs a geopolitically neutral design philosophy.
Philip, how about a small competition where you provide a blank, simple and small map and the community has to create the style that is so distinctive, it could be a new theme for valve?

Aztec was so difficult in 2v2 on ESL, it was pure skill because it was so unbalanced, that you had to play every round perfect and there were some SWEATY duos but i guess most of them cheated anyways 😂
