I ask you because i saw smoke coming out from my new cpu, lol.
I can still smell weird odor from mainboard.

Should I need to buy new cpu and main board now?
Not that I say I don’t want to spend another $ 🙂

If you let the magic smoke out then it’s best to get new equipment.

WTF IS THAT!!!! But serieus first try a new thermal paste or/and a new cooler. You can also try taking the glass panels of your case.

If your motherboard reaches the temperatures required to melt those pins, your CPU is the least of your worries.

Usually you can see burnt brown in the center, when it’s smoked

Ever heard of a warranty? Make sure you qualify, but check your psu as well.

I’m honestly amazed at how this has actually happened in the first place. If this was a new CPU I’d definitely return it, if it’s refurbished there is a chance that someone has used a poor grade solder on it as a repair job. Even so, your motherboard shouldn’t be letting your CPU draw that much power to make it hot enough to melt, perhaps see if there is any issues reported on your model of motherboard as well. Wish you luck I’m getting it sorted.

Do your best, caulk the rest?

    Wait that’s DIY, not PCs.

Yeah sorry this happened OP, but unless you can RMA (or contact original retailer), you’re probably looking at needing a few new parts (mobo, CPU, PSU?!)

Are you under warranty? If you are you could probably get a replacement
Also did you mix and match old PSU cables with a modular PSU? It can fry components

Try to do warranty but if you can afford it buy new shit because warranty is gonna take some time. Then sell the warrantied stuff or gift it to family or a good friend

Nothing to worry about, your motherboard just elect a new pope.

yes, if its SMOKING, yes, do try use a little common sense

It looks to me like the pins have broken off with the socket. It’s possible that the cpu came off with the cooler and the latches just held onto those pins. I am assuming that this happened before the magic smoke came out, even if you didn’t notice.

There is no cpu capable of drawing enough power to melt its pins, return it, and if u rly like money there are some grounds for a lawsuit if u rly didnt do anything wrong lmao.
I mean reaching melting and smoking point temperatures is pretty fucking hardcore

New CPU *and* motherboard. Might want a new PSU for good measure

  15. Inhale the smoke. You will not regret it 😉

Funnily: the cpu ( central – processing – unit) will turn into a cu ( central – unit)
Logically : the cpu will not work because the pins are the main part that equips the cpu with the motherboard
Physically: the pins are made of gold which melting point is 1,064 Celsius or 1,943 Fahrenheit so i guess no way it will melt but it will cause overheating and lack of preformance
