Tried about a million variations with my MSI 3080 Gaming Trio (10GB) so it plays better with MSFS 2000 in VR and yeilded no great results. So I got a suggestion to try an overclock on my CPU instead.

I followed the tutorial here and adapted it to the MSI bios settings:

So far I’m at 5.1Ghz, running 1.4V. I’ve adjusted the Load Line Calibration to Level 4.

This locks the speed at 5.08 and the Voltage varies from 1.38 to 1.4V

A few questions:

1) What is the suggested cooler type setting? MSI lists Boxed Fan (65W), Tower Air Cooler (255W), Water Cooler (255W)?

2) My Average temps are around 67-80° C under load; but I see random spikes to 97° C and my HWinfo stats show thermal throttling turned on in about 5 of the cores. What would be the next best move to start lowering this?

3) With the cooler type that I have (ID brand 240mm). How far should I really try to push this?

My System:

i9 10850k
ID brand Cooler 240mm
MSI Z490 MPG Gaming Plus board
32GB RAM (3600mhz)
1000W 80+ Gold Power Supply
3TB SSD + 1TB m.2 NVMe

**This is a PC that I bought for VR gaming around 2021, but haven’t really gotten to play much until now. My next upgrade won’t be until the 5 series cards release. Not looking to win any overclock awards but more frames in MSFS would be great.

Appreciate any help.
