I was doing some overclocking and had to reset bios to run stock memory speeds for process of elimination. I set power down mode to disabled, and some other settings since I was just leaving timings and speed at stock.
While doing this, I could not find memory context restore in the Asrock overclocking menu when I thought it was there before. So I used the BIOS option search tool to find memory context restore (it appeared under AMD section) and disable it, as it is required to be disabled when power down mode is disabled. Turns out, this specific option actually didnt do anything in my case.
Upon attempting to boot Windows, the pc would BSOD with various errors (kmode exception not handled, system thread exception not handled, irql not less or equal), similar symptoms to when memory context is ***enabled*** with power down disabled.
After trying stuff for a long time, I finally found that the Asrock memory context restore option only appears when you set the memory clock to something other than “Auto.” And apparently, this option **overrides AMD’s option even if it is hidden**. The whole time, I actually had memory context restore enabled even when AMD’s option was set to disabled (and I thought mcr was disabled since I only saw the amd option). So if you reset BIOS setttings, make sure you look out for the Asrock memory context restore option, if you need to set it.
