I got a socket 1156 system for free from someone. Not sure what CPU it is yet, haven’t checked, they just told me it’s an i5. I’m planning on delidding it and putting it under ice water, something like that. I really just want to have some fun, since I’m much more willing to accidently break something like this.

I was under the impression that Intel didn’t start using paste under the IHS until Ivy Bridge, but while I was researching I found [this post](https://linustechtips.com/topic/814278-i5-750-delid-you-wont-believe-the-results/) on the LTT forums showing an i5-750 with paste. What’s going on here? Are some 1156 CPUs soldered while others aren’t?
