This week’s new Online Time Trial isn’t sticking around. Gran Turismo 7 pairs the Toyota MR2 GT-S ’97 with the East End layout of Autodrome Lago Maggiore on Sports Hard tires, and instead of the usual two-week run, it’s gone in seven days.
Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi has already confirmed a new update is on the way, and its set to add four cars: the Toyota Chaser and Mark II Tourer V, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N, and the Caterham Seven Superlight R500.
Trimming a Time Trial down to a single week to reset the schedule is exactly what Polyphony did the last time a physics-altering update landed mid-cycle.
That was July 2024 (has it really been that long ago?!), when Update 1.49 arrived with a reworked physics model. Running a Time Trial across a physics change would have made a week of laps pointless, so Polyphony closed both active events early and brought back a single event capped at one week to reset the stagger.
History repeating itself isn’t guaranteed, but the playbook matches closely enough to suggest this update could bring a little more than IV cars to the table…
Two Continuing Events This Week
Last week’s post carried a World Series tie-in alongside the regular new event, so there are two events carrying over instead of the usual one. The Red Bull X2019 special tied to Round 2 of the 2026 Gran Turismo World Series in Tokyo this Saturday, August 15, is still live at Deep Forest Raceway and still paying double the standard bronze rate. The Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe ’64 at Daytona Road Course carries over as well. Both close August 20, when a single new event takes their place.

Online Racing Event
Want to race this week’s combo against other players instead of chasing it solo? The SNAIL Racing League runs casual online races each week using whatever car and track the active Time Trial has up, and anyone’s welcome to join in. Head over to our forums for details.
Accessing Online Time Trials
If you haven’t tried one of these before, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode first by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe. A PlayStation Plus subscription isn’t required. Once an event closes, rewards go out based on how close your lap was to the fastest time: gold for anyone within 3% (2,000,000cr), silver within 5% (1,000,000cr), and bronze within 10% (250,000cr). The World Series special continues to pay double the standard bronze rate through August 20.
New events land every Thursday, and each one normally runs for two weeks before the oldest drops off. The next new Online Time Trial arrives August 20. See our full unlock guide here.
