Shadows of Evil
I made an in depth for special enemies on Shadows of Evil some time ago. I later thought it was of poor quality, with many mistakes. So I took it down and made this new one with accurate data and stats.
Parasite/Insanity elementals
I am going to refer to elemental as raps from here.
Special rounds
Special rounds on Shadows of Evil do not follow the same round numbers as previous special rounds and instead follow their own logic.
The special rounds occur as follows:
- First special round: Round 5 or 6 — Parasites only.
- Second special round: Round 9 or 10 — Raps only.
- Third special round: Round 14 or 15 — Both Raps and Parasites.
- Every special round after this: Occurs 5–9 rounds later, with both Raps and Parasites.
The final special round will always spawn a Max Ammo power-up.
Parasites can occasionally drop a Max Ammo outside of the playable area, making it impossible to collect normally. You can still retrieve these drops by turning into the Beast and reaching them.
Be careful when dealing with Raps in the Pack-a-Punch room, though. A Rap can fall off the platform and die before you are able to kill it. If this happens, any Max Ammo it would have dropped can become inaccessible.
Xenomatter
Xenomatter, one of the components required to build the Apothicon Servant, can only be obtained as a drop from killed Parasites or Raps.
The drop has a 10% chance of occurring, and the chance to obtain Xenomatter begins starting on Round 12.
This means that although Parasites begin appearing much earlier in the game, they cannot provide Xenomatter until Round 12.
Health and points
Both special enemies use the following health formula:
Health = 50 × round number
Their health is capped at a maximum of 1600 HP.
Players receive 10 points for damaging a special enemy and 70 points for killing one. The method used to kill the enemy does not provide any additional points.
Raps
Like their Multiplayer and Campaign counterparts, Raps roll around on the ground until they get close to a player, at which point they explode and deal damage.
Each Rap selects one player to hunt and will attempt to reach and kill that player.
Raps are immune to most AATs, but they can trigger both Blast Furnace and Thunderwall.
Spawn:
The number of Raps that spawn during a special round depends on the number of players:
- Solo = 10
- 2 Players = 18
- 3 Player = 28
- 4 Players = 34
There is a maximum of 4 Raps alive per player, with a hard cap of 13 Raps alive on the map at once.
After Pack-a-Punch has been activated, Raps can also begin spawning during normal rounds, starting after Round 12.
Raps spawn by falling from the sky, like a meteor. A fire effect appears on the ground at their point of impact location. Interestingly, their hitbox becomes active before their visual model has fully spawned, meaning they can be damaged and killed while they are still in the process of entering the map.
Attack:
Raps have a single attack: they explode when they get close to their target or after a certain amount of time has passed.
Base damage = 50
This is explosive damage, meaning the actual damage taken depends on the player's distance from the center of the explosion.
The Danger Closest GobbleGum makes the player immune to this damage.
Raps can be killed using the Swords, although doing so is risky because they will explode when they get close to the player. They are immune to the Apothicon Sword slam, but they can be killed by the Keeper Sword.
Parasite
Parasites are flying enemies that generally keep their distance from players while attacking them with acid projectiles.
Unlike Raps, Parasites are immune to all AATs.
Spawn:
In Solo, 10 Parasites spawn during a special round.
With multiple players, the number of Parasites spawned is calculated using:
Parasites = 10 × players × 0.75
There is a maximum of 5 Parasites alive per player, with a hard cap of 16 Parasites alive on the map at once.
Parasites can also spawn outside of special rounds through other mechanics:
- One Parasite spawns whenever a Margwa head is destroyed.
- A Parasite has a chance to spawn when a green Pod is opened/destroyed.
- They also begin spawning during normal rounds after round 12. Capped at 8 alive at once.
Attack:
Parasites have only one attack: they fire a single acid projectile at the player.
Base damage = 30
This is splash damage, so the actual damage taken is slightly reduced depending on the player's distance from the center of the projectile's impact.
The projectile can also hit players around their Shield, making the Shield ineffective at completely protecting against Parasite attacks.
