SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Members of the USA Men’s Handball Team visited Food Truck Friday in Downtown Sioux City on Friday, Aug. 7, sampling a rotating lineup of local food trucks between Jones and Jackson Street on 4th Street.

The team is scheduled to face Canada in an upcoming match. Explore Siouxland has served as host for both Team USA and Team Canada during their time in the area.

Team member Gary Phillips said the food met expectations.

“I got me a torta from the Mexican truck down there. And yes, it did. It was amazing. I love good Mexican food at being half Mexican. So I tried that because, you know, I wanted to see what Iowa was talking about, but it definitely lived up to the hype,” Phillips said.

Stacie Anderson, Executive Director of Explore Siouxland, said the visit was an opportunity to showcase the community.

“What a great opportunity for them to see the heart of our community, which is the downtown, and have all these food options. I mean, who doesn’t love Food Truck Friday, right? There’s something for everyone. They get exactly what they like. So they’re having a great time, both teams, and we’re just really, really honored to be hosting this event,” Anderson said.

The Food Truck Friday visit was not the teams’ only local stop. On Thursday, both teams attended an Explorers game. Explore Siouxland also introduced new mascots, Lewis and Clark, who made an appearance at the downtown event.

Food Truck Fridays continues through the end of August.
