Halo: Campaign Evolved launched just over a week ago as the first Halo game to arrive on PS5, alongside Xbox Series X|S and PC.
However, instead of focusing on the remake itself, recent discussions have centered on community criticism, the game’s sales, and reports about management issues inside Halo Studios.
A new report has now revealed how poor management at Halo Studios created major development problems for Halo: Campaign Evolved while also affecting other projects.
Halo Studios Reportedly Canceled a Multiplayer Game After Development Problems

According to insider Rebs Gaming, the remake faced serious development problems. It was the first Halo game built with Unreal Engine 5, and Halo Studios began working with Abstraction in 2023 to help move the project to the new engine.
The biggest problem was that the remake was already well into development using a different engine. Abstraction worked on the conversion and also helped with features such as four-player co-op, but management decided to remove the studio from the project and discard all of its work.
That decision forced the team to start over. Developers were told that importing assets from the previous engine would be easy, but that turned out not to be true, leaving the team to recreate those assets from scratch.
The problems continued to grow, and the studio had to go through long periods of crunch to meet deadlines that were considered almost impossible, especially during the final year before release.
Several features were eventually cut, including the in-engine cinematics, which were replaced with pre-rendered scenes. However, the cuts were not limited to Halo: Campaign Evolved.
Halo Studios was also developing a multiplayer Halo game, but the project was canceled so the team could focus on finishing the remake. Rebs Gaming did not reveal many details about the multiplayer project, only confirming that it was canceled during development.
It’s also worth noting that this is not the first Halo project to be canceled. In 2024, a former developer revealed that the team had been working on a Halo Battle Royale mode that was eventually canceled and “could have been a game changer” for the franchise.
In other Xbox-related news, the long-awaited digital-to-disc feature for Xbox consoles is said to be launching later this month.
