2026 COMMONWEALTH GAMES
One of the tightest battles among the races at the 2026 Commonwealth Games came in tonight’s final of the women’s 200m IM, where the top three competitors were separated by less than half a second.
Australia’s on-fire Jenna Forrester wrapped up another gold, hitting 2:09.24, as Aimee Canny of South Africa notched a new national record en route to the silver medal position in 2:09.37.
Also impressive was 16-year-old Amalie Smith of England, who dropped beneath the 2:10 barrier for the first time in her young career to come away with the bronze.
Smith stopped the clock at 2:09.61, establishing a new lifetime best, British Age Record and European Junior Record in Glasgow.
Smith’s time tonight overwrote the 2:10.32 previous European Junior Record she put up at the AP Race London International just this past May.
The swim is also under the 17-year-olds British Age Record that has stood for more than 13 years. That record of 2:10.53 was set by Siobhan-Marie O’Connor in 2013 and still, technically, stands.
