One sided strafing is a very fancy way to describe bot walking in one direction whilst shooting. However, despite being extremely simple, one sided strafing is an extremely effective measure when it comes to close quarter hipfiring. HOWEVER, do not spam this move as you will become predictable if done so.
I tend to classify one sided strafing as two types. They rely on the same mechanic: to disrupt preaim and force opponents into active tracing, which has less accuracy and give you more odds to winning the encounter.
The first one is relatively easy to do. Whilst ALREADY ENGAGING with the opponent in a hipfire, drag the joystick to one side and allow it to bot walk for a longer time than you normally anticipate in a jiggle. End of story. In such instances, direction rarely matters. Effectiveness vary depending on the distance of engagement. The closer you are, the more likely(not a must) you can throw off one’s aim, making one sided effective.
The other type is when you INTIATE a hipfire fight. This much more complicated to explain and therefore requires a graphic illustration. Focus on enemy. For one to anticipate another to come out from a cover, they usually place their crosshairs as indicated by the red cross for preaim. The orange lines is the boundary at which one can re-focus their aims quickly(might vary a bit within players but not much), a margin of error for the preaiming if you may. The essence of one sided strafe lies in the fact that it is the quickest way to throw off the preaim (and the margin of error) to force opponents into actively tracking the your movement, which drastically increases your odds of winning. In such cases, direction matters, heavily. It is not recommended to do the blue path as the orange boundary covers more of it, and green path is better vice versa. For training muscle memory, a rule of thumb is stick to the wall from the edge you are emerging out from whilst moving. It is even better if you know where your opponents are preaiming and have their “orange range” in mind.
