Full Disclosure: I received this product for free from LG as part of an event. While I was asked to share my review, all opinions are entirely my own.

First of all, let me share my current-ish monitor journey up until this point so folks have an idea of what I am basing my opinions on:

ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q 34" Curved Ultra-Wide 3440×1440 100Hz
Gigabyte M32U 32" 4k 144Hz
ASUS PG32UCDM ROG Swift OLED 32in Gaming Monitor 4K 240Hz
LG Flex 42" OLED 4k 120Hz
LG UltraGear Evo 45GX950A-B 45" 5k2k 165Hz

And finally, the UltraGear evo 39GX950B 39" 5k2k 165Hz Monitor I am using today.

I've used all these monitors with my (at the time) main rig, which sees about a 50/50 split between productivity and gaming. Productivity work consists mainly of documents, presentations, AI, general remote work type stuff. Gaming is a mix of everything.

I thought I had found my end game monitor with the LG UltraGear evo 45GX950A-B. I won't go into detail about it, as there are plenty of reviews out at this point. But I had two major complaints with the 45". The first, was text legibility. The PPI combined with the subpixel layout made text fringing obvious, and something you needed to look past. The second was HDR brightness. The totality of the experience was worth the shortcomings.

I've now been using the UltraGear evo 39GX950B for a week. Initially, I set it up side-by-side with my 45GX950A-B. The increase in text clarity and ultra-high brightness was so apparent that I spent my first two days using the 39GX950B exclusively. By the end of the first week, I've completely replaced the 45GX950A-B with the 39GX950B. I do miss the more aggressive curve and size of the 45GX950A-B. But sacrificing some size for better clarity, better colors, and 1500 nits peak brightness…it's an easy trade off IMHO.

I'll post my full review in a couple of months or so, but initial impressions are well beyond what I was expecting. Is it perfect? It's as close as I've had. If I could add one thing, it would be adjustable curvature. The LG Flex spoiled me in that regard.

TL;DR: It's better than my 45GX950A-B in everyway.
