TULSA, Okla. –

A team of Tulsa-area game developers and creatives is bringing a homegrown video game to one of the world’s largest gaming platforms.

Ultra Rad’s Slide Hustle, a game developed by local companies Kenning, Rogue Frame, and Mood Shift Pictures in partnership with Ultra Rad Stuff, is now available to wishlist on Steam ahead of its anticipated release later this summer.

Steam, the world’s largest digital distribution platform for PC games, allows users to add upcoming titles to a personal wishlist, which provides notifications when games are released or discounted. Wishlist activity also helps increase visibility for independent games ahead of launch.

Players of the game navigate garage sales and thrift stores on a limited budget, searching for hidden treasures to research, repair, and resell for a profit. The puzzle game centers on building a successful resale business while striving to earn the approval of the protagonist’s father.

According to one of the developers, Tyler Huffman of Mood Shift Pictures, the game was inspired by his real-life resale business, Ultra Rad Stuff, which operates out of Family Treasures Antique Mall in Broken Arrow and online.

“I pitched my friend Ben Davis, who has worked on larger games like Industria and Industria 2, the idea of a game about buying and selling rad stuff,” Huffman said. “From there it took off, and within a day he had a basic build and concept created using Unreal Engine.”

Huffman said the project has been in development for about two months, with approximately one month of work remaining. The team is targeting an August release, though the launch date could change as development continues.

The game is the result of a collaboration among several local developers. Ben Davis, operating under the studio Kenning, leads game development. Craig Birchett of Rogue Frames created the game’s sound effects and sound design, while Huffman’s Mood Shift Pictures is producing the project alongside Ultra Rad Stuff. The team is also in discussions with local voice actors to bring the game’s characters to life.

Huffman said Ultra Rad’s Slide Hustle is the first of three games Kenning plans to release this year.

The developers are encouraging players to add Ultra Rad’s Slide Hustle to their Steam wishlist and share the project to help support independent game development in Oklahoma.
