According to sources close to Sheep Esports, Álvaro “SunPayus” García is expected to be benched by G2 Esports from the Counter-Strike 2 roster. Following a Top 5-8 finish at the IEM Cologne Major, the Spanish player is set to be removed from the project, meaning the German organization will now have to look for a new AWPer for the remainder of the 2026 season. At this stage, his replacement remains unknown.
Having already worked alongside coach Eetu “sAw” Saha during his time with ENCE, the duo reunited at HEROIC for six months in 2025 before joining G2 Esports together on June 18. Throughout the year, G2 struggled to find consistency. SunPayus joined the roster after the Austin Major, replacing Aleksander “hades” Miśkiewicz, who had been playing on loan from Monte following the departure of Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov a few months earlier.
Over the course of the year, G2 successfully qualified for both Majors but failed to establish themselves as title contenders at the biggest events. Winners of BLAST Open Fall after defeating Team Vitality last October, and of Stake Ranked after beating BetBoom, the European organization never truly found its rhythm in top-tier competition. In recent months, G2 repeatedly finished in the Top 5-8, including at IEM Rio and PGL Astana, where they were eliminated twice by Team Spirit, as well as at BLAST Rivals Spring, following a loss to FaZe Clan in their opening playoff match.
