Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi recently spoke about how Square Enix came up with the name for the RPG.

The upcoming title will conclude the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series trilogy. We knew about this third party for a long time, but many wondered what it would actually be called.

The answer was finally shared during Summer Game Fest earlier this month. Square Enix had a huge blowout of the game with multiple trailers. And of course, we learned that the project is called Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.

Speaking with Famitsu, Hamaguchi had this to say about how the name was decided:

“We had many ideas for the title, but in the end [Tetsuya] Nomura (Final Fantasy 7 Remake series creative director) decided ‘I want to go with ‘Revelation’. Nomura thought that until now the word has been used in many other entertainment works, and so is a relatively easy to understand word. And it is the end of the story, so the title expresses the role of the third game and the truths that will come to light. It is that kind of word.”

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches on Nintendo Switch next spring. You can find trailers here and screenshots of the game on Nintendo’s console here.

Hamaguchi also recently shared some thoughts as to why streamers are causing “a bit of a crisis” for RPGs. We have more on that here.
