According to Esports Charts, the IEM Cologne Major 2026 has set a new watch time record for Counter-Strike esports even before the Grand Finals was played. It went past 76.2 million Hours Watched (HW), the highest in the game’s lengthy competitive history.

The previous CS2 record for esports watch time belonged to the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, which generated 76.1 million Hours Watched. It surpassed a four-year-old benchmark set by the PGL Major Stockholm 2021, which had remained the only Counter-Strike tournament to exceed 70 million Hours Watched until 2025.

While IEM Cologne’s established prestige and strong audience engagement also contributed to the result, the shift to best-of-three matches throughout Stage 3 was one of the main factors behind the spike in watch time. Used at this stage for the first time in CS history, the format created more rounds and longer broadcasts, pushing the German Major’s Hours Watched higher.

Interestingly, the three most recent CS2 Majors now rank as the three most-watched events in the game’s history by Hours Watched. This trend partly reflects the evolution of the Major format: the expanded field, three consecutive 16-team Swiss stages and, most recently, best-of-three matches throughout Stage 3 have all increased the amount of content available to viewers.

Regional audience engagement has been another important contributor to the tournament’s performance. Russian-language broadcasts provided one of the strongest regional boosts and have already surpassed the watch time recorded at the Austin Major. Spanish-language coverage also grew compared with the previous Major and reached a new all-time peak viewership record for Counter-Strike esports.

While some regional segments contributed more heavily than others, the Playoff bracket has retained teams with appeal across nearly every major Counter-Strike audience. European and broader international viewers remain well represented, alongside Russian-speaking, Brazilian and Hispanic communities, while teams with strong Turkish support have also helped engage secondary regional audiences. This balance has allowed the tournament to aggregate interest across a particularly wide range of demographics heading into its final stage.

Esports Charts continues to closely monitor viewership trends from the IEM Cologne Major 2026. More news, milestones, and achievements from the event can be found on the official tournament page.
